How to Volunteer

Habitat has a Place for You . . . .

Habitat for Humanity of Salem County is looking for committee volunteers. A great way to become involved with this local mission is to join one of our committees and become part of the Habitat family! When one first thinks of Habitat for Humanity, the image is of a building site where nails are hammered or a raising of a roof for a new homeowner begins. Actually there is much more to this organization.

Our mission is to provide homes where people can live and grow into all that God intended by providing simple, decent homes through homeownership. Ultimately, we help build people’s lives and the communities we all live in. The following committees are necessary to do this:

Building and Site Selection: This committee is self-explanatory. Our building volunteer works on Tuesday and Saturdays, and also works with week-long work groups during the week as needed. The Site Selection members works with local government and private individuals to secure building site and presents them to the board for approval.
Church and Public Relations: This committee promotes the public awareness of what Habitat for Humanity as well as specific goals that our affiliate is working on and promoting. This includes annual mailings to county churches and corporations.
Family Selection and Support: Works on applications that are sent in, runs credit reports, makes home visits and recommends the best prospective family partner to the board for approval. Once a family is selected, a family sponsor assists with home owner issues and other homeownership matters that may come up.
Resource Development: Includes Fund Raising, Budget Work and Board Recruitment. Works on short and long term goals for the organization.

We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. Romans 12:6-8
